Imdb User Reviews The Worst Film Ever Made (in this universe or any other)
5 June 2011 | by christopherjarvis (United States) – See all my reviews
I had the misfortune of seeing this film at the Museum of the Moving image in Brooklyn. It was screening as part of the world science festival, which I'm still not quite able to wrap my head around because the film's scientific insights are pathetic, superficial musings about trite pseudo-intellectual topics. That aside, the infantile storytelling and film form is unbelievably offensive and condescending, and would be hilarious to mock if not for the sobering fact that this garbage actually won a prize at Sundance. For anyone who has seen Kieslowski's masterpiece The Double Life of Veronique, this film will be especially offensive as the story seems to draw heavy inspiration from it, albeit in the dumbest way possible. The acting is beyond awful and the camera-work, while sometimes compelling, is overwrought. With the 'success' of this film and of others like it, (it is very reminiscent of the callow and superficial thematics of Black Swan), I am fearful for the future of our cinema.
GoofsFactual errors: Apart from the fact that the gravitational perturbations would have made such a planet's existence evident a long time ago, the presence of another planet the size of the Earth would be catastrophic at the least, and at the distance shown in posters, cataclysmic.
Looks bad.
