all of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 did not have dedicated servers on PC, which caused some controversy a couple years ago. Generally, dedicated servers provide a smoother online experience and allow more players to join a match. Today at Gamescom Activision confirmed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will have dedicated servers for the PC version. This is part of an effort to show PC gamers that Activision is serious about the platform.
One concern Activision has with the PC version, though, is the fact that it is an open platform and cheating will be easier than it will be on the consoles. With Call of Duty Elite, the upcoming social network for the shooter series, Activision will be giving away many, many prizes in official contests. If you don't win something, then you'll know someone who has, Activision says. The company has budgeted millions and millions of dollars for real-world prizes to be given away.
With so much competition and rewards to be won, PC cheaters are a definite concern for Activision. Representatives said it is actively working on solutions and won't ship Modern Warfare 3 without being able to ensure a fair fight for players.
